Can I claim for PPI other than mis-sold?

Options
Hi there experts

I will try and keep this as short as I can

After travelling I got a new job and a new bank account with Abbey National in 1997. Shortly after I got my first Credit card (MBNA) within the Abbey branch and remember sitting with a lady but I cannot recall discussing PPI.
I was employed, living rent free ,no mortgage or loans (happy days).

When possibly years later I noticed PPI I assumed you had to have this when you got a credit card. (Very green back then).

Roll on to 2001 whilst on Maternity leave I was made redundant and split with partner. I relied on my credit card and overdraft and slowly they grew with monthly repayments growing.

I was totally unaware what PPI was and I did not claim. Surely the bank or credit card could have picked up I was in trouble at some point? I really don't know...

I buried my head until I could not pay the £180 a month they wanted. I maxed the card to £5'000 and overdraft £500 and another £500 on Egg card. That was in 2005. I contacted Step change and for the last 10 years I have been paying that debt. Abbey sold the debt to 1st credit and I still pay interest. I repaid around £3'000 but because of interest I still owe £5'000.

I have today contacted MBNA and they say I had PPI and will send me some forms within next few days.

My question really is can I claim for any thing else?

If they could have paid me when I was indeed unemployed maybe I would not have got into financial difficulties. I learnt a hard lesson back then and have never got into financial trouble since 2005, never missing a payment.

Any good advise would be appreciated. :T

You can complain that the PPI was missold or you can complain that it didn't pay out when it was supposed to, but you can't complain for both.

Sure, But PPI was on my statements and they were writing to me on a regular basis. I was unaware that I had it.

Ok , I suppose not paying out is evidence of being mis-sold.

    Many thanks for you response.

It's evidence that you didn't make a claim when you could have done?

Is it possible to pay any more towards your debt? At the current rate you are going to be paying it off for the next twenty years. It would be worth posting a statement of your income and outgoings on the Debtfree Wannabe board, see if they can suggest any ways for you to budget more effectively.
