Thank you all so much for your replies, i was intending to use the sat nav on my phone, i have a phone holder stuck to the windscreen, will that be allowed?

I believe so, what you can't use is the speed camera warning you get on stand alone sat have and the co pilot phone app.

Just to add, carry car documents in the car at all times and be aware of the speed limits in towns and villages often do not have speed signs.
Town/village name in black on white background is 50kph and white name on black background is 70kph.

You don't need breathalysers that rule has never come into force

You do need a hi viz vest per person in reach ie not in the boot.

Having been stopped by the police at a roadside check point they checked everything so make sure you have your v5 / insurance and mot. If it's a company or lease car you should have the owners permission.

You need a spare bulb kit and triangle.

Enjoy driving in France it's so much nicer than the UK.

If you go past Folkestone services there is a ATM machine that dispenses euros that is free of charge. It's at the back of the service station opposite the toilets.
Does it charge the card in Euros, or in GBP at a rip-off rate? Most UK ATMs which dispense Euros charge you in GBP and the rate is usually a bigger rip-off than the UK high street!

I think the main exception is Moneycorp which has ATMs which charge you in Euros, if you make sure you select that option.

The question was how is the withdrawal applied to your account? Does it appear on your account as a Euro transaction, and your bank does the conversion, like would normally happen if you use your card abroad?

Or does the ATM set the exchange rate, eg tell you you'll get charged £80 for 100 Euros?

Most UK ATMs which dispense foreign currency set their own rate and it's usually a rip-off, eg 10% worse than interbank or more. That is a massive charge! £10 per £100 withdrawn!
