Please help

I have an overdraft on both of my accounts I hold with halifax, which are both maxed out! I have been in this situation for some time now, although I'm not going over my arranged amount I'm getting charged £1 per day on both accounts amounting to £60 a month just on overdraft fees and I'm unable to break the cycle. Does anyone know of a way where banks would refund any of the charges I have paid in the past? As I just want to break the cycle and get back on track, I'm sure I most of paid £100's on charges now. These are not charges for package accounts I just would like to know if you can get back charges paid on overdrafts. Thank you

You tell the bank that you feel you are in a cycle of charges that is preventing you from dealing with your debt. They will consider your case under their financial hardship criteria. This will involve looking at your spending habits. So, if you have a medium to large mobile phone bill or paytv (netflix, sky etc) or other luxury items (which can also include where you buy items) then they will likely not help you as you were not in hardship but spending too much on non-essentials.

However, if they agree that you have problems that you are unlikely to get out without help then they will consider a range of options. A refund of recent charges is one option they could use. Another is a suspension of future charges for x months.

So, just put your case to the bank. Do not mention the words unfair or similar to that. That will result in an auto-rejection.
