Claiming when unsure of credit card & loan history

Options
I’ve been persuaded that I should investigate making a PPI claim.

My credit card and loan history stretches back to the late ’90s and I’m not sure I can actually even recall all of the lenders involved.

I’ve had both personal loans and credit cards which have been sold from one lender to another multiple times – and I’ve no longer got the paper records stretching back that far. For example, a credit card which started with Morgan Stanley, then was passed to Goldfish, then Barclaycard.

Would a PPI claims company be able to trace my records back for me? Or are they limited to the six years my current credit history covers (in which case I could do it myself)?

Thanks.

A claims company can't do anything you can't, apart from take some of your money.
  • Okay, so … I am only able to make claims against lenders I can remember (including dates, account numbers, etc) or lenders within the last six years (who I can find from my credit report).

Is that correct? There’s no way of tracing my history back beyond six years, whether I do it myself or pay someone else?

If you're looking to make a complaint that you were in some way mis-sold ppi, then the first thing would be to phone the companies concerned and ask them. It's free (or maybe the cost of the calls).
Second step could be a DSAR + £10 to each company what info they do have.

No one else has access to to your financial info, or they shouldn't have. So a claims co (unless they make things up) can only go on the info you provide, - pointless using them.

Sorry, I maybe didn’t phrase the question very clearly.

Reading my credit history gives details of all the lenders I’ve used over the last six years. Is there any way of tracing back further, to check who I have used prior to that?

(I can’t contact them if I don’t recall who they were.)

There is no way of tracing what companies you had credit with unless it's on your credit report or you remember who it was.

    No way at all.

You can't recall who they were (or, presumably, any details of your dealings with them) but you are intending to make an allegation of wrongdoing against them?
