Better to start a fresh?

If you've been having financial difficulties due to redundancy and your account has been in and out of an unarranged overdraft, once your back in work, is it better to close that account down with the negative history and start a fresh with a new bank so you have a new account with a clean slate on which to build up a good history with?

As your existing bank hasn't given you the elbow, it might be as well to stick with it and build up a sound financial history for a couple of years?0
