Ford Focus Cmax 2005 Brake pads
Options
Hi Guys
Not sure if this is the correct area for this post, my apologies if it isn't
I need to replace the rear pads on a Focus Cmax, from experience of doing pads in the past I know its a relatively easy job. I'm told however that the rear caliper needs a wind back tool to push the piston back in, problem I'm having is that I'm having real difficulty finding somewhere that sell them, I've found loads on eBay but they'll take a few days to arrive. is there anyway of getting it back in without the windback tool.

Needle nose pliers.0

Some just go back in with a g clamp but Halfrauds tend to have these but at £32 it's a bit of a rip-off or try your local Euro car parts or another independent motor factor.0

Ah yes, Thanks ChumLee, having never done rear pads, (always been front) does pressure need to be applied to the piston whilst rotating?0
-
found some on Eurocarparts, £15, but again, delivery would take a few days. I Refuse to spend money in Halfords, I'd sooner struggle. I@ve got some long nose pliers lying about somewhere I'll use them
Thanks guys.0 -
I think you would need to apply pressure with a big pair of shifting pliers while rotating with needle nose pliers. It might be useful to have a helper0

Thanks for your help guys, also am I right in thinking it will only rotate 1 way when pushing the piston in. (lefty loosen, righty tighty)
I did wonder how to disengage the electronic handbrake but thanks to google that is no longer an mystery.0 -
machine mart sell the tool. I makes a really fiddly job really easy and can be used to push back front calipers as well.0

Do you have to rotate the pistons as you push them in? I'm just curious. My old car is very simple and I use waterpump pliers to push the pistons in by clamping them against the caliper on one side and the old pad on the other.0

Thanks guys.
Halfords advanced tools are actually a real high quality product at a fraction on the price of the likes of snap on etc.
Long nose pliers can work, assuming the piston goes back easily, which it doesn't always.0
