Postie ARGHHH!

I was in all day until 2pm, got back at 4pm to a card through the letter box saying that the postman etc. blah and I have to go to the sorting office tomorrow to pick it up.
Went into my back garden and was moaning to my neighbour about having to go pick up the parcel, it's a 8 mile round trip, when she told me that the neighbour across the road had told the postman she would take the parcel for me.
His response, he had put the card through the letterbox so he had to take it back.

If the postie had handed the parcel over to your neighbour, there would have been a "package to collect" card in circulation that wouldn't tie up with anything in the delivery office and this could lead to problems.0 -
OP, if you were the postman/woman what would YOU have done.
Seems to me he or she was just doing their job.0 -

What, so the same thing happens again!
I had this with our postie and was occupied in the loo when he delivered, then saw the collection card and ran down the road to catch him and we swapped and I got my delivery.“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

As above, once the card has been left the postie can't then deliver the parcel without retrieving the card. Otherwise you could get a potentially irate customer at mail centre demanding the item associated with the card- with no proof it has already been delivered.
I can see no issue with this scenario at all, postie did exactly what he is required to do.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Did you wash your hands before running down the stairs and handling the collection card/parcel?0 -
as a postman, i've had a couple of "boll....ings" over this
1st was after i'd carded an item and just about to drive off when a neighbour pops out and offers to take it, i said have i to leave a note but no, they'll make sure they get it,
i say to make sure they ignore the card, but then the recipient sees the card before neighbour and goes to get their parcel! my fault albeit trying to save them a trip,
now if this happens i post a further card to ignore other card and parcel is at #??
although a few people don't grasp it and still come down to collect even though they've got their parcel.0 -
The Postie isn't at fault as others said if he has left a card, and say another person in your household picked card up (not you who got the parcel) and went to PO to collect they have issues obviously finding it0
