Electric shower smells smokey?!

Hello,
a couple of times this week I've thought I could smell smoke when having a shower. There was what looked like smoke coming out of the top but could have been steam, though I've never noticed it steaming at the top (this is on the electrical box).

Does anyone know if it's safe to use until I get someone out to look at it?

Is it likely to just blow up or blow up and crispy critter me?

No it most certainly is not safe to use.

Water, electricity + a human(particularly naked and wet) make a lethal combination.

All showers have lots of electrical safety protection for that reason. However something 'burning' could well be burning insulation on wires and overide that protection(unlikely but possible)

Are you a spark Cardew?

It does smell like it could be insulation smoldering as it isn't a sharp smoky smell. Hubby checked it with the electric screwdriver and when he touched a wire that shouldn't have been live as the dial wasn't turned round it tripped the switch (he did a couple of years of spark training).

It's a council house so I suppose I'll just have to wait until monday til they send someone out. Problem is we don't have a bath so it's the only way to get cleaned properly.

It's switched off atm, it only smells when it's running.
