Hello folks I need a little advice
My friend has gotten herself into a little money trouble, not a huge amount but we are managing to get it fixed, she just had her head burried in the sand a little to long and most of us have been there at one point or another. Now I'm just wondering if she is entitled to WTC. She works more than 16hours per week on minimum wage is 24 and lives with her parents. Maybe she already gets them I'm not sure but I can't ask till tomorrow. If she isn't getting them then is she entitled? Any advice much appreciated.

Hello,
Couple of questions first and then I can help you:
Does your friend have any children?
Is your friend in receipt of DLA?
Do you know what her total gross pay from all income was for last tax year (06/07)
If you know the above, post and wll go through it with you.
Ps, when does your friend turn 25?0 -
Much appreciated for the quick response.
She doesn't have any kids and no she isn't getting DLA. Her gross last year would have been around £12,000 and she is 25 in Jan next year.0 -
To be eligible to claim WTC if you dont have any children/disability's you have to be over the age of 25 & be working more than 30 hr's per week (remember this is to be eligible). If you have en eligibility you then have to be on an income of less than £10,500 (this is an estimated figure and will have to check at work on monday) to receive an entitlement.
So at the moment she would not qualify.

Thanks so much. I might be wrong about the amount she earned last year but I'll check with her. I know it doesn't help now but it might in a few months.0

Not a problem.
Dont want to confuse you too much, but WTC is based on previous year income, so next tax year (08/09) when your friend is 25, if they start working 30 or more hours a week they may be elgible then. Reason for this is next years WTC will be based on this years income, which will be low as they are only working part time, therefore recieve an entitlement. You wouldn't have to worry about o/p's eitheir because the disregard for income is set at £25,000.0
