Ford Focus 1999 - headlamps converter to drive to France
Options
Hi all,
Driving to France for the weekend, and would like to know what you recomend to convert the headlights to comply with driving on the other side.
I bought these stickers at Halfords: http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/travel-accessories/car-headlamp-converters/halfords-headlamp-converters
But I have no idea where to stick as the old Ford Focus headlights have a funny/sort of rectangular shape.
Anyone knows what's good to use to cover the headlamp in the old Ford Focus and where the headlamps are?
Many thanks

Have used the ones you get on the ferry several times and both ways - LH to RH and visa-versa, even with vintage cars. Normally there's a set of diagrams that shows just about every type of bulb / headlamp style, plus an 'if yours doesn't look like any of the above do this' type statement.0

This old chestnut comes up every year - have a search on the forum for the last time it was discussed.
I'd stick them ........... in the glove compartment.
In over 40 years of driving in nearly every country in Europe, from Norway to Greece, (sometimes a trip every month) I've never used such things.
I use the same thing that the tens of thousands of foreign visitors to the UK in LHD cars use - nothing.
I did have a set of the stickies back in the late 80s but threw them away when I tidied the car when I sold it in the mid 90s.
There is no law in France (or anywhere else for that matter) that says that you must 'convert' your headlights.
Just like in the UK there are laws everywhere that say you must not dazzle other road users.
No-one can be fined for not fitting these horrible sticky things and I don't know of anyone being fined for dazzling if they were on dipped beam.

Cue the nay-sayers.
At night, pull the car square-up towards a wall or garage door, maybe just over a car length away, on level ground. Turn dip beam on.
You'll see the light cutoff does this...
That kick-up towards the kerb is what you're blanking off. If you don't, it kicks up towards the oncoming traffic.
For some cars, it's flat. No blanking needed, in those cases.
Get a tug? Unlikely. But do you want to be a git about it?0 -
This time of year, are you really going to be driving at night? If your driving is (mostly) limited to daytime, then just don't bother with them. Worst case use your sidelights and front fogs.... (even if this is legally dubious).
However, if you are driving overnight or in winter when you'll need to keep you headlights on much of the time, then apply them according to the instruction leaflet included. My postings reflect my lifetime's experience and my opinion. You are quite welcome to respond with your experiences and option, whether similar or different.0 -
I get some Eurolites off ebay for a few quid. You will be able to buy them on the ferry too. They come with instructions for almost every car.0
