"Original area around house", in permitted development rules

I'm putting up a shed in my back garden. I understand that the rules for permitted development (i.e. no planning required) say that outbuildings and any extensions must together cover no more than 50% of the original area around the house.

My Googling is failing me a little so my question is, is this the entire area of the plot, including driveways etc.? My house has a small back garden, but a larger front area with driveway and areas of lawn and bushes. These are all to the front of my house, so could not be used for permitted development themselves, but do they still count for the purposes of the outbuilding area calculation?

I believe it includes the whole plot, so you should be ok.
