Unfair Bus Lane fine?

Hi All

My partner was visiting a friend in Swindon a few months ago. Being unfamiliar with the area they had moved to, she inadvertently turned onto a bus lane. She got off the lane as soon as she realised but too late. She received a fine.

We wrote a letter stating that she had got lost and wasn't aware of the area and that there was no intent to deliberately drive on a bus lane but this appeal was rejected and my partner then paid the fine.

However, I am still not happy about this. Do I/we have any recourse to appeal again? As said, she didn't know the area and became lost. She would never have intentionally driven in a bus lane and she did exit the lane as soon as she realised.

Is this simply another case of local authority applying the "guilty until you can prove your innocent" blame culture?

Appreciate any comments
Thanks

If it's paid then there's probably no further course of action.

If this was a real fine (a PENALTY) then take the question over to Pepipoo forum - they're better placed to handle such questions.

Ignorance is no excuse. You'd have to prove the layout and signage was inadequate. But since it's paid I don't like your chances of getting a refund.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

I an struggling to find any unfairness here, are you suggesting that bus lanes only apply to locals?
