Car tax question, dealer taxed car
Hi all, I'm getting a little stressed. We decided to get a new ( not brand new) car and saw one 2 weeks ago. We paid deposit and arranged to pick it up today. Ive sorted the insurance on the new car and phoned the dealer this morning to arrange to tax it. The dealer told me they taxed the car a couple of days ago. My worry is that the tax date will be different from the date of new keeper and has the car been taxed in our name? I know they must tax peoples cars for them but I don't want to be in trouble for no tax. I'd rather of done it myself. What do I need to make sure of when I collect the car later today? Am I panicking over nothing? Its a well known major dealership. Thanks in advance.

Ask them outright is it taxed under your name and if not then it is not road legal for you to drive as it must be taxed under your name only.0

were they paying for itWhat goes around-comes around0

Thanks, I will check its in our name, will that be on the printout they did when taxing it? I looked at my last screenshot from when I taxed my car last year and it just has a number and the car reg, not sure if I only took screenshot as a receipt.
When we paid the deposit we were quoted on our car as part ex, new car cost and 12 months road tax. I'm worried that the date the car was taxed is different from the date we will have as the new keeper. I understand they must do this quite often but I don't and I want to make sure everything is ok. I know you can look on the website to check if a vehicle is taxed but I doubt very much it will say who's name its in.
Thanks again0 -
I've made a note of the phone number for car tax enquiries, I might ring them when I get to the dealership just to make sure.0

Is car tax not done on a monthly basis so the actual date of taking pwnership is irrelevant , as long as it is taxed in your name.
The car will be taxed from 1 August as that is the current month.0 -
As long as they taxed it using the new keeper slip it will be OK, the dates and names are irrelevant (they could put mickey mouse if they wanted - the name on the slip is not recorded), the important part is that the name and address are correct on the transfer section of the V5.0

I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as you bought it before they taxed it. When they do it they often get a print out to give to the buyer (unless cowboys).Je suis sabot...0

You are panicking over nothing. They will have taxed the car in the new owners name (yours) and it will
be from 1st August.
That's it, panic over lol.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
