paid for item via debit card... item not recieved!

Hello,

First off... does anyone think the weather is going to pick up? God its miserable!

ANyway, onto my problem... and I am sure it's happend to a few people, have bid and won an item on ebay, paid via my debit card & surprise surprise item not recieved & no reply's from seller. I know I can do a dispute via ebay (but not protected), but question is can I get the money back through my bank (The Co-operative). Just phoned them, they have said they will pass my details to fraud department... what do you think my chances are?
Im well gutted, work really hard for my money and someone has to come along and do something like this!

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Hotblu

Ps, Anyone else had this happen... what was the outcome?

Is it a Visa debit card? I think the Co-Op issue those (at least Smile, their internet bank, does). In this case, though it is not a credit card (where the protection is higher), I think you may have a better chance of getting your money back. Perhaps others can throw more light on this.

    Hello LittleVoice,

Thanks for the reply. It was a my Visa Electron card. The advisor I spoke to has said they will pass it onto fraud and take it from their. My only concern is I paid for it, its not as if my card was misused, so that's why I think I am fighting a losing battle. Ebay is just useless! Surely people cant get away with it though can they?

Was it paid with your debit card through paypal? If so file a dispute through paypal. Be quick though as that way it will put the sellers account on hold and stop them withdrawing the money then if it is not satisfied it will go in your favour.

    Hello s1h,

I did use paypal, and what you have said makes sense, but when I go onto ebay to follow the process it says you have to have waited 10 days after listing ends, its not been 10 full days yet. So dont think I can do it can I?

Can you please just clarify...if you paid by paypal less than 10 days ago why are you already contacting your bank re fraud? Is there some reason why you think you have been scammed, has the seller started to get negs for non delivery or is there something else going on?

Sellers have up to 7 days to ship an item *from payment date* to be protected by paypal, so it is quite possible that seller ships as late as day 7 and it is still in transit, or have I missed something?

  • A dispute lodged with e-bay is NOT the same as a dispute lodged with Paypal - you need to do both, but not until the time limits on both have passed.

As has been pointed out about sellers have up to 7 days to despatch goods before claims can be started.

You also need to remember that we have been having rolling industrial action in the post office system, which is causing backlogs and delays at various points around the country...

    Hello,

The ebayer in question (or should I say ex-ebayer) has had 3 negs on account since my winning bid and is no longer a user. Have emailed a couple of times, but no luck. So that's why I think it was a scammer...
