What do you call this window?

Just moved into a flat with one window that "swivels", i.e. it is attached at a screw point slightly off centre top and bottom, and pushes out. However it only opens about 4 inches at the moment and despite a push won't go further. Do I loosen the screws to make it open right up, or will that make the window fall out ! Sorry if this sounds a really stupid question but I haven't come across this type before. All help appreciated.

No, I don't think so, because I see other people's in the same block that open right out.

Are you sure there isn't a safety catch that you push in to open it up fully?

It sounds like a safety window

If you can see other similar windows in the same block. Then why not just ask a neighbour. Also it would be a good way to meet your neighbours.

Open the window as far as it will go, then look in the frame (left and right) side that you have just exposed by opening the window. There may be some catches that you push in to allow the window to open further.

Mine swivel right back on themselves, but you have to push a little tab in on the left hand side to allow it to slide further out/all the way over.
