Router Help needed please

Options
I've got a pc which has a broadband modem connection to Tiscali via the phone line as we dont have cable where I live.

I've just bought a laptop and a net gear router, which I have installed and is working fine. When I get hold of another length of ethernet cable I want to hook the PC up to the router and do away with the curent modem but I have a couple of questions if someone could help me please:-

1) When I connected the laptop to the router the software lead me through connection to tiscali. Do I have to use the software again on teh PC and do the same as I did with the laptop or is it the router that needed setting up so once has done the job? (IYSWIM?)

2) Will I have to disable the current dial up option on my PC or will the router just override the current set up?

3) Is there anything else I haven't thought of but you think I should do?

Thank you everyone:beer:

you don't need to install software, just plug into pc's ethernet port.

you may have to tell ie to never dial a connection, ie/tools/internet options/connections.

is it a wireless router (which router is it)? is the laptop wireless
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I have 2 teenagers and they both have PC's in their room for homework etc and I don't want them to have the internet up there so I opted for cable router rather than wireless. Thank you so much for your help, really appreciate speedy reply...am not very tech minded

you could always have got a wireless one, and not given them access, then you could have used the wireless functionality (which is very useful if you have a laptop, and also to let them use it when they get older.)

Just plug in the ethernet cable supplied into the PC, and see what happens, it should just connect, as all settings are stored in the router.
