Any tips for packing?

I'm doing this at the moment, having (re)learned a lot when I moved last year. I'm using movers but doing most of the packing myself, so I have boxes from them. One key thing is that books weigh a lot, so they provide smaller boxes with handles for books (and CDs/DVDs) and larger ones without for clothes/towels/bedding etc. I will be colour coding my boxes, one colour for upstairs, one for downstairs, and one for stuff to go in the garage.0

You might get removal boxes from Freecycle. That's how I got rid of mine.0

Thank you for all of your advice. We have been lucky and were given o load of old boxes from friends who moved recently. I'll definitely take some of the tips and ideas on board.Determined to save and not squander!

If they're old boxes, you might want to buy a roll of 2 inch wide tape to run over the bottoms as old boxes have old tape which can be brittle and, as such, the bottoms fall out when the box is lifted and the tape fails, so a new bit of tape will prevent this.0

Vacuum bags for clothes, they hugely reduce the size and make it much easier to pack / transport / carry around.0

forgot.
If you have stand alone furniture that has volume like chest of drawers wardrobes.
Fill the drawers but carry them separately.
Same with wardrobes find boxes that will fit in the space.
takes up less room when moving/storing so fewer trips or smaller van.0 -

I agree. I bought a pack of 4 vacuum bags for something like £12 and while they are good, I wouldn't buy any more. I just bought a pack of twenty very heavy duty black bin bags for £1 from the car boot.
Avoid the cheap black bin bags. They split so easily that they are not reliable.
Get some white labels and label your bin bags as well as your boxes. You don't want to have to rip open thirty bags looking to see which one has your spare coat etc.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...
