If you literally have no money, then do not buy any car and make do with public transport.

Contact your nearest scrap yard and ask if they will collect your old car. They may even give you some money for it.

"Car is perfectly drivable at the moment and was being driven (with the spring issue) by the guy selling it to me until MOT ran out." .... and you trust this guy, who knowingly drives around with a defective car????

You can't drive a car without insurance under any circumstances. It's an absolute offence.

Maybe it's pedantic but I think you missed out the word "legally". I can drive a car whenever I want with or without insurance. I can't do it legally without insurance on a public road though.

It really does sound like jumping through hoops to get this car. If the guy hasn't bothered to fix a safety issue that will fail an MOT has he bothered to service the car? Automatics are not as rare as you seem to think, maybe not as common as manual cars but plenty about.

Don't forget you would be knowingly driving an unroadworthy car if you did this.

Speak to the airport parking company, they will have a local scrapyard that regularly picks up cars that are dumped there.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement... you don't know ops full circumstances. Public transport isn't an option for everybody.

I'd get the old car collected by your friend or a scrappy and get a hire car from the airport for the drive home.

Then, if I had no immediate need for transport, I'd take my time finding a replacement rather rushing into the purchase.
