diverter valve replaced problem

Hi I am hoping someone can help. I have a Worcester Heatslave combi boiler 9.24 (very old approx 20 yrs+) and have recently replaced the diverter valve with a new one as only the central heating system worked before with no hot water. Now the valve has been replaced, I still cannot get any hot water and now the central heating system does not work either. I have bled the radiators and there was air in a couple but I have been told that this is a completely different system and should not effect the hot water. Can anyone suggest something?

I'm no expert, but is it possible that whatever it is that triggers the diverter valve to move has failed rather than the diverter valve itself? Is it possible to test the diverter valve you've removed to see if that works out of the boiler?
