Don't touch them, they are complete rip off merchants! My friend has had a website with them and wants to move it. The domain name is in her name but Webworks want £100 to release it and have told her if she does it herself via Nominet they will sue her! It's her property, in her name! Don't ever sign up with these people, you will never be able to leave. She has had start a new domain name for her business to be able to move on.

The domain is owned by her and in her name.
The registrar is Heart Internet Ltd, I assume they are a part of Webworks who do the site.
Registration expires on 3rd Oct.
Webworks say they will hold the domain until it is back on the open market, ie, sometime next April!
If she changes it before then they will sue her!0 -
On what grounds are they saying they can sue her?
Assuming this is straightforward and she registered a domain with Webworks/Heart and now wishes to transfer it to another registrar, get Nominet to do it and lodge an official complaint with Nominet about Webworks.
However, if she purchased services tied to that domain name, such as website design/management, email inboxes etc. that are still within a minimum term contract period then it might be that the £100 is due for early termination.0
