If you had said "I've got a Nova which say 1200cc on the log book so the insurance is cheap, but I put the engine from a 2.0 Astra GTE in," then you would be in trouble if you needed to make a claim. A spare wheel or sat nav, not so much.
You're talking extremes though, that anyone with any common sense would know they would need to declare or not.
I think the op, and me, are more concerned over things like parking sensors, tow bars, bluetooth car kit, leather seats etc. Things that MAY have been options at new, may have been fitted later either by the manufacture or someone else.
I'd never thought about it before but it seems it's a bit of a grey area generally and can also differ between insurance companies, which seems pretty pants really...0
