Looking for something cheap for my son to muck about with. He has a guitar and practice amp and drumkit, but needs something for a singer. Him and his pals fancy forming a band! So just something cheap for the bedroom\garage at the moment.

Define cheap.
The usual cheap but good mic is the Shure SM58 which is about £70.
The Sennheiser Evolution range is OK and some are quite cheap (E825 or even E815 (I have one of these but I've hardly ever used it).)0 -
Well I was thinking about that sort of price for the amp and mic!0

OK - so you can get a Sennheiser for £30 - here for instance:

and from the same place a Behringer amp for £42 - the picture is wrong

It really looks like this:

Check this site for other cheap mics by AKG and Audio Technica.
Behringer stuff is cheap and I can't vouch for it's quality or reliability. Look for acoustic amps with mic inputs and you might find something better.
Personally I'd spend a bit more now as they could outgrow a small amp very quickly.0
