Old Black Horse Car Finance .. They will not acknowledge me as I can't find any paper

Options
I had really large car finance loans with Black Horse . They were settled up about five years ago .
Now I'm not sure if I had PPI but I would like to check as I was paying nearly £850 a month .
I have moved a few times and unfortunately not kept any paperwork as it was all settled up.
I have asked Barclays as that's where my direct debit came from but they have said it will not be on my account all dead DD,s are wiped off after a year ??
Black Horse have said they won't help me unless I can get a direct debit proof or agreement no ? As it was all those years ago ...
Please can someone try and help and shed some light on what I may be able to do .... Many Thanks

Sounds reasonable. They have no need for that data so should destroy it.

What about looking at your bank statements for that period?
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
  • Your bank may be able to provide bank statements going back 6 years, so ask for these. Then you can see if they show loan repayments. If they do, you might find it has the loan account number as a reference, which could be enough for you to start your PPI claim.

You could also ask the lender to give you copies of their records of your account (this is your personal info so they should release this to you if they have it). You may need to provide old address and contact info from back when the loan account was still active, so they can trace you. If this shows PPI on it then they don't really have any excuse not to investigate your complaint. However, if they've disposed of the records then this might be a dead end (I'd check what their data retention policy is though, and ask what searches they've carried out).

Who arranged the loans and sold the ppi, Black Horse or the car dealer?

And if it was a dealer who sold it, was it before Jnauary 2005?
