Maternity leave - work perks!

All schools have spare IT equipment lying around for use by staff that they don't necessarily know they will need? When was that survey done?
And to answer the question the OP posed - yes, some companies expect employees to hand back company cars when they are on long term sick or maternity. That is down to the terms that the employer puts in place, just as this is - an answer you have been given several times now. None of us can give you permission to keep the tablet whilst on maternity leave, so there is little point in continuing to argue your case with us! perhaps your employer should be the object of your argument? However, I do wonder that this is such a big deal - will it actually kill you to go without a tablet? It isn't a choice between having the school tablet or having to buy one yourself - you could just not have a tablet at all. They aren't necessary for life.
It is not spare, it is bought to be used by supply and temporary staff, as someone who has worked in schools for a long time, and now works for a private company that does exactly this I don't need to do a silly survey. All schools need supply, so a rather silly and pointless comment.0 -

And your claim that all schools have spare equipment is therefore not evidenced - and also quite irrelevant to the fact that whether the schools allows people to keep the tablet on maternity leave is a matter of employment terms, not how many tablets may be lying around waiting for a user.0 -
The OP stated that not all staff had this equipment so maybe there is a shortage.0

There is not a shortage. They just decided to give tablets to a few departments to see if they would be of use.
If I left after maternity the tablet would get returned to the school as per the contract. Can't check the contract for what else it says as it is in my classroom!
To be honest you're coming across as rather "me!me!me!" in this thread, perhaps you should step back a bit and consider it more objectively.
??? I am just asking if anyone knows about maternity rules and things like getting to hold onto a tablet or not.
It would be nice to be able to keep up to date with school whilst on maternity, how my tutor group, classes are doing etc... Which will be much harder to do without a tablet.
It's not the end of the world if I can't have it - it would just be really handy.
Not sure who my replacement will be, as they had no applicants for the person who just left on July!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I can't quite believe your attitude. It's not ALL about you - the school might require use of their asset whilst you're away.
You can buy tablets for less than £100.
You are in a professional position with good maternity benefits. It's reasonable to assume that you did some planning and concluded that you could afford to expand your family.
So, if you would really struggle over buying your own tablet then you have bigger problems than this that you should be concentrating on.0 -

Are they of use? I guess the question is this and also the fact you have been granted to use it for your own personal use. But you could always restore to factory settings before handing it back to the school.0 -

1. All about me?? I am mainly wanting to hold onto it to keep up to date with the school (i actually happen to care about my classes and tutor group) so my return to work is as smooth as possible.
2. I am sure you studied enough Biology at school to know how babies are made, and that I didn't just press a "twins please" button. Nature decided I was getting two this time. I kept all stuff from DS, but now require an extra set of everything, not to mention having to change my car so I can fit three child seats in. If you already have twins and managed at no extra expense, then well done.
3. There is no problem over a tablet. I just asked it was something that could be held onto whilst onto maternity. That's all.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
