Cat D Write Off. Should I keep my car???

Options
My car has been assessed by an engineer. Written off under a cat D. Do I keep or let it be scrapped??? I have considered all the other factors and spoke to several mechanics who have all said keep the vehicle, but I'm still unsure and require more advice before making my final decision. I still don't have a figure from co part yet so I'm sure that will determine my final decision.

Without knowing the specific damage its hard to determine which way to go. Personally have bought a couple of vehicles as cat d's from the local scrappers.they've required no more than panel replacements, bumper, bonnet wing etc.they rarely throw up any problems after repair.I bought a ford focus as a cat d.still going strong now. Sold it 5 years ago @ 150,000 miles

    I'd go with mechanics advice
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

My BIL has just fixed up his cat D. £1800 payout less £400 to buy back. Cost him £150 plus 5 hours to fix (mainly because he couldn't find all the bolts holding the wing on) - front wing, suspension arm, wheel, tyre and wheel trim. All nuts and bolts work, nothing to be unbent.
  • Thank you wrightk and molerat. My concern now lies with the premium for a cat d vehicle. I need to do more research, but do you have any advice?

What kind of car is it, what age, mileage and condition pre-accident and what damage done to it now? What is the offer?
On your insurance query, which company have asked you on their quoting system if you know if it has been written off?

    Hi Colino

Fiat Punto Grande, 43k, really good condition prior to accident. I've not been given an offer yet. I rang my insurer and they told me once they received report from engineer.

Don't really care what age, mileage or condition it was in pre-accident then. If they offer to leave the salvage with you for £50, take it and sell it on ebay. Don't even consider fixing it, this is an opportunity to get a decent car.
