JSA & Bank holiday.

Hi guys,

I am very new to JSA so would appreciate any help.

I sign on, on Thursdays and get paid on a Tuesday. Sadly there is a bank holiday next Monday and I am wondering how this affect my payment.

I have read in many different (old forum posts, similar to this) that I may get paid Friday or Saturday, or still Tuesday. This is due to them releasing the payment earlier.

I say this because I am considering for asking for a same day payment of benefit, due to financial needs & this may not be able to happen if they send a payment earlier.

(I also bank with Natwest).

Thank you for your help.

You will get paid on Tuesday as normal. Anybody who would normally be paid on a Bank Holiday get paid on the last working day prior to the holiday. There is no basis in your case for a same day payment.

If you bank with the NatWest the Tuesday payment will most likely be in your bank account on the Saturday. This is because of the way that the NatWest updates accounts - the updates (of credits and Direct Debits) takes place at around 2.15am the next morning after the last working day prior to when the credit / DD is due to be credited to / debited from your account. As the Monday is a Bank Holiday this means that the credit should appear in your NatWest account at about 2.15am on Saturday morning (the Friday being the last working day prior to the Tuesday for that particular week).

This is also the case, if you bank with RBS.

Robbie64 is correct (as you bank with NatWest) and the first 3 replies are wrong.

Your JSA should credit by 2am Saturday.

This is because NatWest/RBS/Ulster Bank perform their overnight credits/debits for Monday on Sat 1.40am. As its a Bank Holiday, all Tuesday debits & credits will be actioned overnight on Fri/Sat morning.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

Natwest/RBS are the only bank that use Saturday as a working day.

I bank with barclays. It should show Friday/Saturday morning because one of the may bank holidays the amount was in my bank account Saturday but showing Tuesdays date.

A bit on conflicting information, my personal view is that I think this will drop in on Saturday, due to me banking with Natwest.

However, would that not mean that they would need to send the payment earlier regardless? I am considering asking for a same day payment on Thursday, but if the money is already sent, then I am not sure what I can do?
