LOANS.CO.UK Letter received

I have just received a letter from Loans.co.uk who claim to know that they brokered a loan for me with an unknown company but supply me with a reference number and date the loan was made.
They are asking me to complete and return their questionnaire in order that they can get me a PPI claim.
They say the Financial Conduct Authority has identified problems with the sale of the PPI associated with the loan that they brokered.
Has anyone else had a similar letter, does anyone know if they are legitimate?
Are they scamming or just trying to earn some commission?
I am unsure how to proceed, any help would be most useful.
Thank you

Not sure how much help this is going to be but we claimed against loans.co.uk 2010/2011 and took them to Financial Ombudsman, eventually received our payment.
Anyway, a couple of months ago, we received a letter to say that during a review it was discovered that we had been paid incorrectly and another cheque would be issued (now received).
To me, it sounds like they are now covering their own backs with contacting people but I'm sure someone else more in the know will be able to help you
Another thought is, if you wanted to post a picture of the logo, I can let you know if it matches the paperwork I have received?!?!0 -
WOW!
That's such a quick, almost instant reply, so thank you for that.
That sounds very encouraging.0 -
Be wary. A number of the brokers/sellers of the loans are now cold approaching the same people but in the guise of a claims company and want to take x% of the redress on a successful complaint.
If it is genuine, there would be no fee to pay. That is the thing to look out for.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks, the letter is a bit wordy and I'm still trawling through it trying to find any talk of fees etc.0

Be wary, as dunstonh said.0 -
If they have your details, surely they would know who the loan was through?.

Yeah, that's the bit that got me thinking, they gave me an account ref number too, so who was the account with? hmmm, need to dig through old old paperwork to try match the ref No0 -
I have recieved 2 letters yesterday on loans.co.uk headed paper. The loans were from years ago and have since divorced and moved. They have written to me at my new address which they would have no record of and the address they ask to send the questionnaire back to the post code is no longer in use. Slightly confused and ex husband is reluctant to sign questionnaire. Please if anyone has any advice on this. It does say in the letter it is a free process.0

Call Ge money (Igroup) (Loans.co.uk) 0844 893 0925 these are all the same company.
I think these are who you should contact, give them the account details in your letter and see if they find you.
What year were the loans taken out?0 -
I called GE about 4 secured loans I had, I knew I had ppi on one of the account but it turns out I had ppi on all of them. The ladie I spoke to was very helpful gave me all the details I need and is also sending me all the agreement's through the post!
All in all about £16000 in ppi , she told me that loans.co.uk are currently paying out !! which was nice to hear
And to say I wasn't going to bother with the mortgage ppi because I thought they had gone into administration0 -
I had the same letter from loans.co.uk and currently waiting to hear from them. I have almost moved address since then. The loan was in 2006 but they did identify the lender correctly so it does sound genuine.0
