baggage on internal US flight and ultra short connection time

I'm starting my intial research for next years holiday and I've got a couple of queries that someone might be able to help me with.
I'm booking via American Airlines, a multistop, multi city itinerary, with various One World airlines.
For my internal flights in America, will my luggae be included with the ticket price. as its all part of the same itinerary, or will it be baggage extra, for the US leg.

For the return flight home, we're keen to fly on a particular flight, which is doable, but it does involve a seemingly ridiculously short connection time (approved by AA).
If I miss the connection, there are other OneWorld flights that will get me back to Blighty with very little aggravation - my question is will AA/One World transport me home in the same class of ticket that I'm buying (or a better class !!) or is there obligation just to get me home in whatever class they choose ?

Hi Murf, sorry to hear that Arnie has gone;)

AA are very obliging, I had some issues with a missed connection myself and they went out of their way to get me to my destination.

They will basically ask you what you want to do, if getting to your destination in a hurry is priority then you might have to suck up and travel in Y and they will issue you with a travel voucher for the difference.

If you are prepared to wait then they will stick you on the next available OW flight in your original travel class.

If your last internal leg is quite tight to the final leg, say within 2 hours, don't expect to see your luggage this side of the pond when you return. The only 2 times I have had delayed bags is with that very same scenario, same with a friend of mine whom frequents these boards.

The baggage allowance for the international leg takes precedence over any other flight if it is on the same ticket. So if you are allowed 2 bags 50lbs each for the TATL then even though the internal might say 1 bag each you will be allowed the 2.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

after nearly 10 years of loyal service, Arnie was becoming quite long in the tooth andit was time for us to part company. The plus side is that his replacement is very, very nice indeed.

My final destination is San Diego and I'm currently looking at a route that will take me from SAN - LAX - LHR -MAN. The 'down' side is that the AA agreed connection time in LAX is 49 minutes. The 'Up' side at looking at this route is that we'd be able to upgrade to MCE on AA for about £80 each which would make quite a difference to our comfort.
If we failed to make the connection, there is a BA flight that we'd be able to take 2 hours later, so all would be good. But after paying for a seating upgrade, I wouldn't be a happy bunny to be travelling home in the back of the plane, if I missed the connection.

The other alternative would be if the nice OneWorld people did a Club Class seat sale from Dublin once again - if so, I'd fly back SAN - LHR - MAN and everything would be tickedyboo. But of course, no one knows if/when that sale may/may not occur at.

p.s. the luggage for the internal flight isn't really a dealbreaker. Southwest are quite competitive for the route that I'm looking at. There prices are luggae included, so its easier to get a a true figure. I'm not fussed if our bags are waiting for us when we get home or not - as long as they get here, no worries.

Seems though you would be going into T4 lax but out of Tom Bradley which is next door, but of course you would have to go through security again. You are never going to make it.
Go over to the AA forum on flyer talk, you will get more expert advice over there than here.

We have a couple of internal flights booked with Southwest and were surprised that you get 2 free hold bags with them, can't complain about that.

BTW we now have a 2nd Gen 300, bloody nightmare it's been

I've relooked on AA again and its coming in as an 'approved' routing, so even though you and I think its dubious (with a capital D), someone at AA thinks that its doable !!
At least I wouldn't be stuck if I missed the connection and I could get back on a BA 380 (which should be in PE, if I'd paid for MCE)

After soon digging around, it looks like the MCT is 40 mins and I'd be expected to be in/out of T4 at LAX.

I looked at the latest/last 300 offering, but I was put off by the models imminent withdrawl. I hope that they fettle yours.

Yes sorry I was thinking of going out on BA, AA use the same terminal for domestic and international.

Mind you wouldn't be hard done by if you had to go over to TBIT because it is a very nice terminal.
