Well done peteuk!
I'm 3 months away from being debt free, but actually finding it quite scary! I've always struggled to keep within budgets. OH is a bit of a spender and wants to have a year off next year without having to worry about what he spends, which I don't like. I want to squirrel all that money away and save for a new car. I can see some heated 'discussions' on the horizon:(DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

We will finally be debt free after the 10th of September , our final payment to step change , we were supposed to be debt free from natwest last month , well we are but something went slightly wrong , it says on all of our credit files that we still owe £1.00 , we paid over what we owed which was just under £200.00 that left us about £1 in credit on the loan in July , so natwest sent us a chq for the amount we paid over .. Which we still have , anyway when I chequed all of the online credit files they all say we are still in debt by £1.00 , I contacted natwest straight away and they said it's been fully paid of in the July and that they had sent us the chq for what we paid over as well , they cannot understand what is going on , our loan with natwest was originally paid off in the terms of the loan even though it was part of our dmp with stepchange , this loan does have defaults on it but We still managed to pay it off in the original time , natwest said the £1.00 Owing ( by mistake ) will show as cleared by the 7th of September on our credit files , I know it's only a pound but by now it's supposed to show that it's been fully paid off .. Plus in the time we were originally supposed to be clear with them , it's supposed to show the opposite because we paid to much , anyway our final payment to stepchange is Thursday and we cannot wait , it's our final payment to our tesco loan , natwest & tesco have both been the worst through our dmp , so many mistakes and we got treated pretty bad bad them both , tesco recalculated our loan almost at the beginning after we paid loads into it and added loads of interest so it looked like we had hardly paid any , natwest kept losing payments , it's been difficult but we are finally through it all now , thank goodness xx , I am so excited!! , feels better than Xmas , so lovely xx , it's been such a difficult time and we have been through so much in that time ( 2010-2015 ) was supposed to originally be 2016 end of year but we have managed to put extra I every year and keep increasing our payments to pay it back quicker , plus a bit of ppi from natwest helped , we were about were over £45 thousand in debt and life was getting far to difficult for us and a dmp was our only option and it's something we never want to repeat , we've had difficult times over that period illness and almost death ( me and my son ) and big car problems , we have really struggled a lot , it will be so nice to be finally free of debt , a huge relief and a huge milestone . Good luck everyone xx , you can do it , it is possible xx0
