Buyer returned item without opening case - help

Hi, my buyer asked to return an item as change of mind, I told them to open a case and follow procedure. I heard nothing more until yesterday when the item was delivered back to me. Does anyone know how I sort this out? How do I refund and get my fees back and avoid a defect? I'm already going to be £8 out of pocket with original postage and certainly don't want to lose fees as well.

This used to work so it's worth a try.

Mark the item unpaid , the. Go to cancel sale using the option 'buyer changed mind' (it's somehting like that) then it gives the option to refund and cancel.

I would love all my buyers not to use the eBay returns system.

On the drop down list for the sale options, choose Cancel order, select the option buyer has changed mind/problem with address [Out of stock will give you a defect], click continue & then click send refund on the next page.

The buyer will have to accept the cancellation & then you will get your fee's back.

I can't do that as the item was dispatched, the cancel order link no longer exists. Can I mark as item unpaid if I've already added tracking and dispatched two weeks ago?

Ebay won't allow me to cancel as item has been dispatched, I purchased and printed label via Ebay which I guess might be why there's a problem with cancellation. Via help section I've got a page of my items to come up which asks me which I'd like to cancel. Item is on there but when I click on it it says 'item has been shipped, mark as unshipped before cancelling' but I can't mark as unshipped as that link no longer exists on the more action drop down list!

I used my cancel system 3 weeks ago and it still worked. My item was also paid for and dispatched, buyer returned it for a different colour which I have never stocked, so I had to refund.

I was able to mark as unpaid and follow the usual steps with no problems at all.

Thank you for all your replies. All sorted now. Problem was I was accessing the order details from various Ebay links as I had deleted it from my sold list when it showed as delivered. I had to undelete it and hey presto the cancel item link was back.
