Terrorist attack on Train to Paris

There's been another terrorist attack in France.
Thankfully 2 American tourists who were off duty US Marines overpowered the Moroccan gunman and held him until the emergency services arrived and arrested him.
He apparently had an AK 47, 500 rounds and knives, but only managed to shoot a couple of rounds before they tackled him.
The French Interior Minister thanked the Americans for their brave intervention.
I think its time for metal detectors at railway stations, especially those that cross borders such as these high speed trains.

Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

BBC News(TV) actually reported that it was a British off duty military person who was injured. They still have it on their ticker tape. Someone needs to get that updated.0 -
Yes, I just spotted that scrolling on BBC News 24.
The Mail had a lot more info online, as well as pics at the scene, over an hour ago. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
I have often thought about the vulnerability of trains to this type of attack, and that it was bound to happen sooner or later.I think its time for metal detectors at railway stations, especially those that cross borders such as these high speed trains.
But the high speed Thalys international service, for example, uses platforms and entrances in common with other trains, so it will involve a lot of expensive and complicated arrangements and inconvenience to passengers in order to ensure complete security.Evolution, not revolution0 -
We travelled by bullet train in China recently, from Chongqing to Chengdu.
The railway station had airport style security screening machines for both suitcases and hand luggage.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Why? Borders are just lines on a map to most Europeans now, they're meaningless and don't have any significance in everyday life. For instance, I have a friend that works in Luxembourg, lives in Belgium and shops in France. For her, the border is meaningless.
As for metal detectors at train stations - all you're doing is moving the problem elsewhere. Can't step onto a high speed train with an AK47 and enough knives to open a butcher? No worries, just go to Platform 5 where the rather busy 17:35 all stops is waiting.
Anyway, metal detectors and security checks rather defeat the point. If you do that, the terrorists win. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0
