Renting alone first time ?

Just looking for some advice on how much people spend pcm on rent/bills living alone. Most flats in the area are around £550 a month i roughly make around £1000 after tax. I have also seen 2 bed houses available to rent for the same price as flats, is this common as i would have thought a flat would be much cheaper ?

Thanks

Two beds are often only a little more than 1 beds. I think both are as likely to be let to 2 adults.

550+council tax, gas, electric, water you won't have much left for travel, food and a life on £1k take home.

Finding someone to share a 2 bed with might be a good idea.

I spend about £600 per month on all the bills including council tax, gas, electricity, water, landline, broadband, mobile and groceries.

It's going to be very tight having only £450 a month to cover all those bills. I'd look at sharing a flat.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Or maybe a studio apartment until your incomes increases a little, be cheaper on heating too.
When I moved alone on the same income as you my rent was £450 and I run a car, no money for going out but I managed until my income improved..its doable but tough.
