  • update: This is the sort of trivial-ish thing to give me a sleepless night, and could bear it no longer, lol (nor the thought of getting pulled over by the boys in blue) so this morning, unbeknown (yet) to OH I have "re-taxed" the bloomin car, cancelled my original direct debit, the first double payment will go out on 8th Sept, trying to work it out I dont think I will be out of pocket, well £20.30 at most, and hopefully eventually after email tennis with them this may get sorted. The gov site still tells me my car is untaxed but Im hoping that its because ive just done it. The message was that the enforcement team would be in touch about an apparent lapse in tax but to be honest they can bite me! I have all the paperwork, endless "print this page" showing that some gremlin at the DVLA has not matched up the details. Slump in a heap... as if dealing with idiots is bad enough then along come automated ones. and breathe... and I think I will take bouicca21's advice above and report this to my MP as it really needs addressing. This could all have been sorted yesterday with a single phone conversation but oh no...

I echo the report to your MP option. But I would also be sending a strongly-worded letter to THEM demanding apologies, refunds etc and CC that to your MP too; this really is not on. I drove round for 3 days in an untaxed car because of glitches at the back end of 2014; of course when I finally DID get the thing taxed it was backdated to the start of the month anyway!
