Hi,a newbie here in need of help,if i apply for a credit card for my partner on my credit card account will it affect my rating at all??She has poor history and defaulted in the past/wonga etc.

Also,in order to raise my rating would it be better to dump a couple of cards i hardly use anymore,or keep? Many Thanks :)

Re you partner - no. Unless she makes you go overlimit.

The second depends on your limits, balance and income.

Other than the randomly made up scores sold to you by CRA's - you do not have a credit score.

However, if your partner has a poor credit history and having her as an additional card-holder on your account creates a financial association between you this is likely to have a negative effect on how lenders view you.

The second depends on your limits, balance and income.

    income 36k
    hafx clarity 1800- 220 used
    mbna low rate 3000-1400 used
mbna 3500-new purchase card on way
    bcard initial 800--0 used

keep all?,or get rid of bcard as high apr and low limit, and maybe lower the limit on my clarity, but keep as its ideal for use abroad.
Just thinking about the available credit i have already, and for getting new deals in the future.

The Bcard initial would only be worth keeping if it's a much older account than the others (as it shows stability). Otherwise I'd lose it.

Clarity, as you say, is good for overseas and MBNA tend to send good BT and purchases offers.

But I wouldn't lower your limits too much. You want to keep your balances below 50% (I'd suggest more like 30%) and your total limits aren't that high compared to your income.

This should not happen, but seemingly it does with some cards. If you find it's happened, ditch the card and slap a notice of disassociation on the CRAs.

I'm a second card holder on one of my OH's credit cards (Tesco) and we do not have a CRA financial association.
Grateful to finally be debt free!
