Have you tried Nutracalm for your dog?

This is the stuff

We sadly had to have our elderly dog PTS at the beginning of June. Our other dog is a lurcher and has always been a bit neurotic. He is a rescue and was mistreated in a previous home. Our old dog was bossy and kept him in line if he got silly.

Since our old dog has been PTS the lurcher (Charlie) has become increasingly neurotic. He will bark to go out and then turn round and bark to come in - some days this happens repeatedly during the day. Sometimes he gets himself into a right tizz (for no reason that we can see) and will dribble and shake. Charlie is particularly bonded to Mr BD and will whine and cry if Mr BD goes into the garden and Charlie can't follow - he will do this although I am almost always in the house with him.

It appears that although Charlie and our old dog weren't closely bonded he relied on her for confidence.

Mr BD took Charlie to the vet who has prescribed a week of Nutracalm. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it and if so how effective it was.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Sorry to hear about your older dog passing. Personally, I've never used that brand but I have used others. I like the Pet Remedy plug ins, I did use the Adaptil ones but changed to these and apart from seeming to work better I like the price better too!
Top Spec (Or maybe it's Vet Spec?) do a powder called Calm and Focused which is good, or there is Kalm Aid is also good.

    Thanks GBNI.

We miss our old dog dreadfully.

We have tried one of those DAP collars on Charlie in the past and it had no effect whatsoever. I'll have a look at the things that you have suggested as I'd like to try a plug in or a powder over at least a month. What I don't want to happen is for this neurotic behaviour to get worse and/or become the norm for him.

The Pet Remedy one is good, I think it makes more of a difference to mine than the Adaptil. Plus, it's about the same price for two refils as it is one Adaptil! It has quite a strong scent, but you do get used to it.

    Good luck :)

    Thanks again GBNI

I think I'll try the Pet Remedy plug ins.

We are also in the process of integrating a new kitty into the household, so hopefully it will help him too.
