Possible to get rid of a £50 default?

Okay, so I'm not quite sure how this happened as I have had NO contact with EE until this, so sorry if this doesn't make full sense.
In 2011, whilst at university, I took up a SIM only contract with Orange - it was a great deal until my phone was stolen and I had to deal with their appalling help team, who basically told me I deserved to have my phone stolen if I was in a club (thanks Orange!).
So the moment I left university I took out a proper phone contract with LIFE through Phones4U - honestly I have nothing but great words to say about LIFE! Highly recommend!
Anyway, I thought I cancelled my Orange contract but apparently not - as when I checked my credit rating the other day (looking to buy a house with my boyfriend) it said I had a default of £50.15 with EE. The moment I spotted it I contact EE by email and asked for documentation of the default as I have heard NOTHING. I didn't even know the contract was still active.
Little point: My Orange contract was registered to my university address in town A. I now live in town B where my LIFE contract is registered. I don't have documentation of the contract being ended BUT my previous landlord in town A has been forwarding my post (thanks Gary!) and I'm pretty sure he would have sent along a default letter (or whatever you're supposed to get) if he's been managing to send my bank statements and graze boxes - all post has been moved to my new address now if you're wondering!
Either way EE hasn't provided me with documentation, just a code and account number I need to take into any EE shop and pay - which I plan on doing tomorrow (I work Monday to Friday now). I'm going to pay the default off either way, I'm just wondering whether there is any chance of getting the whole default removed?
Simply because it's under £100 and is actually ruining my life - I can't get any credit simply because EE never sent me anything about a debt and even if I pay it off I'm still going to get treated like I've run off with £20,000 at some point in my life!
Please help xx

When was the default issued? Mortgage lenders do take into account the age and amount if defaults, so it might not be as bad as you think with regards to your upcoming house buy.
That said, if it was me I would be contacting Orange. Their dedicated team for credit files can be contacted with creditfilequery@everythingeverywhere.com but it might be an idea to call them as well.Grateful to finally be debt free!0 -
The default was issued in March but I've only literally found out - the boyfriend & I don't mind waiting a while longer for a house (we're only 22 and 25 after all).
I'll give that email a go then - thank you! The one I'm currently contacting with is the head office so I'll see if their credit file team can give me anymore information. Thank you!0
