card protection from Marks and Spencer

I am fuming with M&S, and at myself for not reading the small print. They sent me a renewal form for card protection costing 35.00 , as I have only one card now I decided against it and threw the letter in the bin. Now they are saying they want the 35.00 as I didnt inform them that I didnt want to renew ( they say it is written in the small print) apparently I am legally bound to pay this amount or they will just keep adding interest each month. I dont owe them anything as I always settle my account in full. I have now cut my card (probably will spite my face) and will forgo my amore points. I am disgusted both with myself for being so naive and with them for not compromising.
