O/S Daily Friday 21st August 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, dry and overcast, but not cold.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, carrots, cauli, green beans and gravy – tonight will be something easy with chips.
Yesterday I tackled the ironing pile, and washed and dried everything from the dirty wash basket, it was empty – but it never stays that way for long, does it? If possible today I would like to get the beds changed, and all bedding washed – this morning I’ll be heading to town to visit the bank, building society and then do the food shopping. I need to also sort out a few items to take to the caravan tomorrow – so I can leave them there ready for when DS2 and myself go back on Wednesday I just need to take some fresh food etc.
Have good Fridays’ everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning nmlc
Thanks for starting the thread.
I have one load of washing ready to go on the line and another load in the machine, the dw isn't full so won't go on yet.
I've no idea what we are doing today, depends on what hubby wants though we will need to discuss the ongoing problems with his mum's will & see what we can do to stop it turning into all out war!
I expect hubby will do some gardening & I may start my virus shawl.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone.
Bonny Scotland is wet already. Luckily there's not any dirty washing from the holiday to do. We were staying in apartments at both places which had washing machines, and I wear and throw old knickers.
I sort of crashed out last night though I managed to watch two episodes of recorded New Tricks (at x2 speed) before bed.
Today I'll be unpacking properly. Had hoped to get the grass cut but that look unlikely. I'll go into town for more shopping, only picked up milk, a ready meal and a bottle of wine for last night yesterday.
The drop in the price of diesel surprised me when I filled up yesterday. When I went away it was £1.15 and yesterday I paid £1.05a litre. Mind you here up north it's still very dear.
Well, as we say here, it's back to old clothes and porridge! The hIgh life is over and there are ordinary things to do, and that includes having porridge for breakfast!
I hope everyone has a great Friday.0 -
Morning one and all. After my one good night's sleep on Wednesday I was back to tossing and turning again last night, and been up since silly o'clock again this morning.
We have had a bit of early morning sunshine but it's gradually getting cancelled out by black cloud. And rain is forecast off and on for most of the day. Looks like the washing will be upstairs on the airer.
I got another telephone call from the gas fire shop once more offering profuse apologies. He got short shrift as his apologies fell on stony ground I'm afraid. Anyway the fitter is booked for next Friday and we'll see if the fire gets delivered by then. Meanwhile, the vase of lilies is back in front of the half removed old fire!!
Got my hair cut at last yesterday and I knew I shouldn't have said that it needs a good trim this time!! She took me at my word and I feel scalped!! Then went food shopping and managed to keep to my small list. Today, being Friday, is cleaning day upstairs and down. I hate Fridays!
Glad you had a good holiday TT but so sorry about the need for a possible further op. Have a good day all (((((((HUGS)))))) if you need one and take care whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Welcome home Gers! We actually had some lovely weather when you were away but it does seem to have left us for now.
DW doing its thing, WM on but clothes will have to go on the airers for now. DD is off today so she will hang them out if it clears up. Made myself an egg and ham salad for lunch but it was all making me feel queezy this morning - I've got a heavy cold, cough and lost my voice!
Need to collect DD from the Solicitors after work, looks like the purchase of the flat is at last going through, very exciting for us both.
I have doors! Nice new ones. I think the builder felt sorry for me as he has put a coat of wax on them already. They have lovely smart handles too, quite a novelty!
Right, off to the shower for me, need to get myself shifting for work but I actually feel like going back to bed! Take care. XX0 -
Morning Guys!
I have been so busy this week. Had DGD for three days. Met her with mum for lunch on Monday, circus on Tuesday, Thea tree on Wednesday to see "Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom" then had her brother as well on Wednesday evening, as it was Mum and Dad's Anniversary yesterday:eek:
Shattered yesterday. I had got a new bed for DGS, and he's used to a cot, so he kept getting up :rotfl:
Anyway, recovering now.
they are lovely children, very well behaved, but they are full on from 6am!
OH is moving house next week, he's stressed out, as his new home (his mothers old one) isn't ready yet. He's having it re-vamped with lots of building and they are behind. Looks like I'm going to have to put up with him for a while!:rotfl:
Sunny in Hastings today, plumber coming to service the boiler too.
Have a good day everyone!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

:DMorning all,Shattered yesterday. I had got a new bed for DGS, and he's used to a cot, so he kept getting up
Now thats where ive been blessed. We bought our 2 year old Grandson a toddler bed back in May as he was growing out of his space saver cot..... He's not discovered he can get out of it himself yet. Little mite sits up in his bed shouting "Nanny!" until i go and fetch him. Ive never known a child like him! I'm not sure my daughter will be so lucky when baby number 2 comes along.:D
Only the usual dailies to do in the house today. Oh and the bedding. So grateful that 'Youngest' kept to his promise to strip his bed himself before he left for work this morning. I'm not so sure about his latest conquest. As yet, i dont know where she's been.:rotfl:
Need to do my accounts too.

Good morning everyone, we here I am on a rather damp IoW,although the sunis trying to peep through. But the weather doesn't deter us at all.We went to Osborne House yesterday and DGS girlfriend Katie was so pleased as she'd never been before. We took a picnic and ate in the grounds .There was a young woman feeding her 12 week old baby under the shelter with us and I was so proud of my four grandsons as they didn't bat an eye or act daft,They had grown up seeing their own Mum feeding each new baby brother as it arrived, and take it as natural and thats what ladies boobs are for.Yet there were grown-ups tutting as they walked past.the boys were polite and played with the toddler that was the babies older sibling and knew that a Mum breastfeeding was the most normal thing in the world. When baby had finished her lunch we all ooed and ahhed over her as she was just at the big smiley stage when they grin gummily at everyone
:):)Quite made our picnic even nicer. DD was in her element as having had five of her own she adores babies especially
Today DD,DGS and his G/F are off fishing for the morning, and my son-in-law and the other three boys and I are going swimming in the local baths
Going out for a pub meal tonight as a treat, and anight off from cooking.Tomorrow night is Cowes illuminated carnival, so that shouls be fun and free entertainment.Fingers crossed the weather perks up a bit.DGS Jack did well in the three science GCSE exams he took a year early, he was quite happy even though he got 'c's as sciences are his least favourite subjects .one reason why he did them early to get them out of the way He does his main ones next year when he is 16, along with his English Baccalaureate.
Well done to all the youngsters who got their results yesterday,I hope they got the grades they wanted.
Right I'm off to get a cuppa, hope you all have a good day
Cheers chums

Morning all,
Enjoyed the Curry night at the local Brewers Fayre last night. Can fully recommend it. Lots of choice, but we were there at half five.
Stripped the spare bed and re made that, will peg out the washed stuff shortly. DH has to go and have his stitches out this morning. That was a bit of a fiasco as they had forgotten he needed them out. I suspect it will tug a bit as he had the op last Tuesday and the wound looks very healed...
I'm heading off into town to look for some new bras and I'm hoping Debenhams have the ones the same as I already have as they fit a treat.
Chorizo stir fry for tea tonight.0 -
Morning all,
Been raining most of the night again but its very humid and hot today so I hope it brightens up later as I have a large towel load in the wm and another to go in after.
Today is my sisters Birthday (day after dads) so tonight we are going out to eat to a local Italian which do really good food. I have to wait in today for her present to be delivered they have promised delivery today so fingers crossed.
Going to have a good tidy round upstairs today, I did downstairs yesterday and then have a shower and wash my hair ready for tonight, cant have too late a night though as I am working this weekend.
Did a lovely roast chicken last night with all the trimmings and a syrup sponge pudding with ice cream, was delish and I think mum enjoyed the company.
Right better get on have good days all x0 -
This afternoon i will be researching digs for my hubby. He is being moved to a site further away. I'm hoping because he's with people who he has worked with before and likes, he will be a little more settled at work. 18 months left on the job which should see him ok financially for awhile.... I'm now wondering if they are going to move 'Youngest' with him..... Heck i'll be talking to myself for months on end!:D
JackieO so pleased your having a good time on the IOW and proud for you that your Grandsons reacted with dignity to the lady who was breastfeeding her child. Must admit i couldnt breast feed in public.... was too scared of peoples reactions, not as though i breast fed mine for long anyway.
Only got as far as stripping the beds as yet. I got caught up on some paperwork that needed doing and have been putting off for months. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
