Roof maintenance now while we have scaffolding up

We are having a dormer window installed on one side of the roof of a mid terraced slate roof house, and have scaffolding up to do the job. Having inspected the roof up close I can see it's a bit shabby with quite a few slipped slates, and others which are very crumbled with almost completely rusted nails. The roofer has quoted to remove all slates and batons, fit a breathable membrane, new batons, refit the slates (we have enough good ones from fitting the dormer to not need new ones) and replace a couple of ridge tiles for 600 ex VAT

Obviously it's an extra cost we weren't planning for, but as we already have scaffolding up we were wondering if it's wise to have the roof repaired on one side now rather than waiting for a problem (or hoping we don't have one!)

What would you do?

I'd do it. It saves you looking up at the ceilings every winter and wondering if it's about to go - and looking up at the roof every time you're in the garden thinking "wish I'd had that done now".

I would have it done. If you don't do it now, you'll only have to pay again for the scaffolding to be put up when you have it done later.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Would that be 600 ex vat at anytime to do job, or just now because the scaffolding is up.

In other words, could you get any cheaper? because you already have scaffolding, or would it cost more later on when you have to rent scaffolding, again.
