B&Q shed woes

Hi
I bought a shed 4 months ago at B&Q - they use a company called Shire. I paid for it (£550) using B&Q vouchers as i get 10% off through work.
The shed had defective doors so i eventually got replacements sent, which were bad as well, my thirds set arrived after four cancelled dates, me taking time off work etc..
I am now at the point were i just want a refund, i know with a credit card it would be clear cut but in this case can anyone advise who is responsible - B&Q, do i have rights if i used their vouchers ?
thank you

You would no doubt get £550 of BnQ vouchers back (if they agreed to the refund) They are very unlikely to pay you back in cash.

(It would not be 'clear cut' with a credit card by the way, either)
  • thanks
I am sure my wife could spend £550 worth of vouchers !!
It was B&Q who took the payment but i have been dealing with the hopeless shed company since then - just wasnt sure where i stood about refunds

Is it the same fault with all 3 sets of doors?
  • Yes - the doors were bowed like a banana ! - there was no way they would close properly

So presumably if they were bowed they have never been fitted?
  • Yes - they were stored correctly but when we came to hang them it was obvious they were warped. Today when the third replacement arrived i immediately lay them on the floor - one was fine but the other was warped - even the delivery man agreed !

I don't understand why you are dealing with the shed company when you should be dealing with b&q.

If each set of doors have been warped then you should not hang any. The last ones to arrive should have been refused if it was obvious straight away that they were bowed.

I used to work for the company that made kitchens for BQ and bowed doors were one of the biggest complaints.

Most of the time BQ tried to put it down to the way the customer had stored them. I know its not much help but with the kitchens there was a leaflet telling you to check the doors even if you did not fit then straight away because unless you notified the store within 7 days they would be very awkward about a remedy.

How has it taken 4 months for 3 sets of doors to be delivered?

Did you refuse the latest ones?

What are BQ saying about them? they cant fob you off to deal with the shed company.
Just out of interest how did you store them?
  • thanks
It has taken so long because they only seem to do deliveries once a week and this current set which i refused on delivery was promised then cancelled about four times so that was nearly a month just for that.
    they have been stored flat
Going to see B&Q manager about it tomorrow - if they took my money then i guess they should sort it
No good at this sort of thing and appreciate your help

    Absolutely right.

As explained in MSE's Consumer Rights guide:
    Know who's responsible

When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!

If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.

It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.
