Buying a car from Evans Halshaw

I'm looking at a car from Evans Halshaw. I'm based in Ireland so have just been looking at the car online and had email correspondence with the dealer.

The car is slightly overpriced, according to comparable and an Autotrader valuation, but it has specific spec features I'm looking for.

I've attempted to negotiate a discount but they won't budge - 'we don't EVER discount cars as the prices are set by head office and they're the cheapest in the area'.

Has anyone managed to get a discount from them?

The car is in Gateshead and I see they will move the car to another branch for a £200 deposit (I've a relation in York who could look at it for me). Are there any issues to look out for with their 'Move Me Closer' option?

Any other advice / info would be appreciated.

No, and expect to pay another £100+ on top for some other checks they do -outstanding finance, admin etc

    Yes.

I used to mystery shop for a car company. This involved going to a number of dealers in an area, posing as a cash customer, working from a set script trying to negotiate the best deal for a particular make and model.

With Evans Halshaw there was the usual pantomime of having to consult the manager numerous times etc etc etc but eventually a discount was offered.

We bought our current car, ex demo Juke from EH, as others have said the selling price is fixed at central office and has been known to increase over a few days! But you can push for more money for your trade in and free servicing which the salesman is authorised to give.
My main gripe is them overcharging for servicing, more than manufacturers prices!!! I will never use them again for servicing but would buy from then again if they had a car I really wanted.

just purchased a car from EH.no budging on price but to be fair it was the cheapest anywhere for mileage.they wanted extras on top for finance checks, trying to push extended warranties etc.i refused all and refused the £100 check else id walk.bought car and am happy so far
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

My sister bought her car from EH and they refused to budge on the price. It was the best priced model/spec in the area so she went ahead about bought it but made sure all paintwork was done prior to paying and got the paint protection and interior protection thrown in.

When we tried to negotiate the price, the salesman said the price of the car changes each week and if they don't get a sale, they send the car to another branch to try and sell it there instead. The number on the end of the price indicates how many weeks it has been there e.g. a car priced £4,563 has been with EH for 3 weeks and has potentially been in 2-3 show rooms.

So I guess, the higher the number the more they will want to get rid and therefore may knock £500 off?
