Need a new monitor

Hello
Need some advice please, i'm looking for a new monitor, mainly for watching films and browsing the net. I was thinking of a 22" widescreen, have seen this one: http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?lang=&product=JDT011
and this one: http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1252308057.1187429944@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfgaddlkgejdedcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&sku=968070

What do you all think?

My main concern is the Contrast ratio...
Also would i be better off buying a LCD TV?

My budget is £250ish at the most, but being an mse user the best deal for my money is what i am looking for....:rotfl:

Your first link/monitor: Excellent for the price - you probably won't find a cheaper retail 22" TFT in this country at the moment. But somewhere, someone mentioned that the Hyundai customer support in replacing/repairing monitors under warranty was very poor (could've been a one-off though). Also, I don't think they have a direct onsite swap-out warranty like many other manufacturers do - something worth checking out before purchasing.

Your 2nd link/monitor: The Samsung 226BW received excellent independent reviews, but you may want to make sure you get a S model if you go for one of these - see comments here by hvidbjoernen (calibrating it for the best colour reproduction here by doogal8).

If you go down the LCD TV-monitor route, consider this Hanspree YT07-32E1-000G 32" HD Ready LCD - it's £50 over your max budget but may be well worth it (or the superior [url=1200:1 model for £60 over budget). Consider the massive size too - 32" may appear too overpowering for yourself &/or too large for your desk. Read the user reviews & see this post: 32" LCD TV for use as PC monitor for some more info about it. G

Great thread... I was going to start this, but thought how many people have already done this? I am also in the same boat as ocset, and was looking into the Dell monitors also. Especially the E228WFP:

Thanks all for the advice and links, after further reading i feel that a monitor and not a TV is the best option for me, as for the samsung 226BW, and the A,C,S panel problem, from what i've read its impossible to tell what you are getting until you have it and remove the rear of the monitor to check!

So my new question will be which 22" monitor should i buy, i could possible go to a 24" depending on the external dimensions of the screen (some have larger surrounds than others), i am limited to a width of 575mm.

    Thanks again all
