And if it is your debt, they will write a proper letter with details, not just a text message
  • Thanks. Yeah we're both really easy to find. I don't know where they got his number, but we're both on the electoral roll. I imagine if we did owe money (which we don't) it would be straight forward to locate us.
Grateful to finally be debt free!

Never recommend responding to phishing emails, texts or calls, you should only respond if you get something addressed to you in the post, reason being, if its not your debt, they will try to stick it on you anyway, they always work on the assumption they have the right person, even if they don't.

The less information you give these companies, the better your life will be.

I'd disagree we had a phone call from a debt collection agency, the debt was in a mixture of my wife's madden name and my first name, at a house we used to own. I explained this and told them when we sold the house and they were happy it wasn't my debt. Removed all details from it (including our new address)
Proud to have dealt with our debts
    Starting debt 2005 £65.7K.
    Current debt ZERO.
    DEBT FREE

You will always find one exception to the rule, some DCA`s behave better than others.
I could name you at least half a dozen bottom feeders who would quite literally make your life a total misery if you did the same thing.

The stress and frequency of the calls have driven people to distraction and worse, I would always advise to only communicate, with any DCA, in writing or by email, and never by phone.

I'm with Sourcrates on this one. Responses can vary depending on who you speak to at any DCA

I once posted that I'd found Moorcroft to be helpful (they were)

A load of posters then chipped in to say how they'd been harassed by them.

In this case there is nothing to sort out. It's easy to ignore a text message. There is too much downside if you phone them, even if you block your number.
