Thanks @HappyMJ - I'd heard there is a risk that the thing could disintegrate and cause all kinds of water damage etc? What do you think about that? (No, I didn't hear this from the company I called out to quote!!!)
You mean it could get a leak and the water then could possibly damage the building?
Very very unlikely. The leak will initially start very small as long as you look at it every now and again you'll catch it before it causes too much damage. That damage if you didn't look at it every now and again and left to become extensive is covered by your home insurance. There's no point spending money preventing something which is so rare.
