Connected 2 pc's

Morning techies,
I need a bit of help.
I have 2 pc's, a new one and an old one with music files and a business database on it.
Is it possible to connect the 2 pc's together so that I access files from the old pc, on the new pc? I would also like to print some of the business files on a regular basis. Is there a 'network type of thing' that i could use? If so what is it i need and how much does it cost?
I'm tempted to buy a second monitor ... especially with 32" LCD's under £300.
However is there a cheaper option? A splitter lead on the monitor, 2 pc's, 1 monitor?
Thanks in advance
Mig

you can more than likely put the hard disk form the old Pc in the new one ??
if you get a Crossover CAT5 cable and have Network cards on both PC's then you can set up networking that way accessing the hard drive on the old PC , once set up you can just swap the screens on a ad hoc basisEx forum ambassador

Thanks for the reply Browntoa
The old PC doesn't have a network card. It's about 6 years old.
Would it work if I had 2 wireless USB sticks, which is what someone else has suggested.
Or would one of those crossover cat5 cable work? What exactly is one of them? Is that the monitor lead that I was talking about?
I'd rather keep hard drives where they are as i'm not the most techie person and would probably break both pc's0 -
