Why do you persist in insisting the lichen has killed the tree? Read the analogy in vile orange above. Yes, the compost heap could possibly be the culprit but, more likely, it is years of neglect, lack of pruning, and age. Moving the compost heap, revival pruning, slow progress may have some effect. Spraying random chemicals will do nothing.
If the tree has no leaves and no fruit..... it is unlikely to revive. It has ceased to be.......0
