dealt with first angryish creditor...so proud

just started a dmp this week so my creditors havent been contacted by dmp company yet, but MBNA have just phoned me to say i had missed last months payment and was trying to persuade me to pay (which i cant ) I was dreading this call but I managed to stay in control, gave them the dmp details thanked them for their time, told them not to ring me again (i am sure they will) and hung up. I have been bricking it all week , absolutly dreading a call, everytime the phone rung i felt so sick.So I was quite proud of myself for the way I dealt with it. You probably think I am mad and mental for posting this on here, but I have made myself ill for months over starting a plan, telling my partner (which I have done) admitting I had a problem, and starting to live again. In dealing with that call today my confidence has skyrocketed.I have put a block on my phone as well now to stop withheld nos. getting through so hopefully that will help, has anyone else done that and how effective is it.sorry if you think Im crazy, just had to let off steam.

Well done! I'm setting up a Scottish Trust Deed right now, and was advised to stop paying my creditors. Scary!!! The insolvency practicioner is supposed to be writing to them with the proposal etc. But they have been phoning night and day, non-stop and I've had debt collector letters already. (actually haven't had a phone call yet this morning!) I must admit to being chicken and paying for caller ID for the next few months! If it's 0800, or 0845 or 0870, or private or number with held I don't answer! What a wimp!

well done I found mbna very unhelpful and they wanted me to take on a loan secured on house !!!!! when I cannont even servage current debt!!!
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
  • Hi I am helping my daughter (a single mum) sort out her debts (around £3000 but not growing) and to sort out her finances in general, which obviously means looking at her lifestyle.
I have done the important things first, utilities first and set up a bank account in my name to manage the direct debits etc

I am dealing with her debts and have sent letters to dispute a statute barred (i believe) amount and two others for debts that she has had for several years and has paid varying amounts during that period.

EVEN though I am dealing with her debts, (mainly with the help of this forum) SHOULD I get her to contact one of the charities listed on this forum so they can advise her in what ever way they can.

    Many thanks Steve

    Hi Poptart1,

Well done for standing up for yourself - these callers can be so hurtful and rude, and they like to try and scare you with their big words. Our DMP with CCCS is due to start on October 1st, so we have sent all creditors the notice letters and small token payments until it is set up, and so now we are dealing with the calls in the same way: I had two calls yesterday and as soon as they asked me to confirm my 'security details' (date of birth, etc,) I said "no I won't confirm any personal details over the 'phone. If you need to contact me, please do so in writing." They sounded TOTALLY shocked and didn't know what to say! lol. It's nice for the boot to be on the other foot for a change and it DOES make you feel like you are taking control of things again.

    Best wishes,

I don't think you are mad at all!

And good for you for staying calm and in control - just keep up with that (if they call again) and you'll be fine.

    Well done. :T
