Sony TV

I've had problems with a Sony smart TV I bought from Curry's 18 months ago.
Not able to connect to Internet, tried Sony helpline but unable to fix.
Spoke to Curry's and they've not been very helpful as guarantee expired.
Thought EU regulations stated that TV should be fit for purpose for 2 years.
First lady I spoke to agreed then manager phoned back to say that law didn't apply to them..
Any suggestions..TV cost £850

Must be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time.0 -
You have up to six years to seek a remedy from the seller.I've had problems with a Sony smart TV I bought from Curry's 18 months ago.

You may need to prove that the tv is inherently faulty though.
Have you read MSE's Consumer Rights guide?
It might be worth reading their How to Complain article too.0 -
Cannot connect to the internet .
First question i would be asking is it the TV at fault ??
Test the TV internet supply with something else .0 -
I had a similar problem with my smart Sony TV (older than your Tv) in that the connection was slow or cut out. I got a refurbished apple tv from the apple online store. It actually worked out better as it had more on it. I understand from friends that now tv, firetv, chromecast boxes are a lot cheaper than my apple tv and do the same, plus for eg. now tv boxes are about £10 to £15 and include now tv movies, entertainment, sports etc for a month or two for free. Smart tvs seem to become outdated very quickly I realised.
Although it is not in relation to your question regarding consumer rights, it might be an easier option cost and time wise, just to purchase a "smart tv" add on box. Otherwise you are looking at arranging and paying an engineer to obtain a report, in the hope that it says the Tv had an inherent fault when manufactured. Even if you got the report and the retailer accepted it, they could offer a repair, replacement (could be a refurb as a your tv is not new) or a refund which would probably be reduced in line with the 18 months useage you have had.0 -

Yes its because the apps end up not being supported either by the TV manfs or the company who supports the app eg Amazon. Its why when buying a new TV you shouldn't focus on the apps that the TV has but more its technical details. Theres even a thread on HUKD where the support for the Amazon app is being stopped for Samsung TV's from a certain year.
Agreed, it would be easier to buy a Now TV box or an Amazon Fire box.0 -
