Reclaiming my money from closed bank account

Options
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help. Back in 1995 I had 2 accounts with First Direct, a current and a savings. My job took me abroad and I would return to UK for visits. However when I relocated back permanently, First Direct had closed both my accounts with some money in them. Not much, about £80 in total I had left in them to keep them open. They closed the accounts and would not give me the money back saying that i hadnt used them enough, and kept the money !!

So how do i go about claiming that back, can I, and is there interest on top? I have lost the current account number but still have my savings card number.

Any advice ?
thanks
Gill

    Gill,

    Nearly nine years ago when you first posted that First Direct had closed your account that had £41 plus interest, it was suggested to you that talk to them and find out what happened to your money.

    Did you do so?
    They closed the accounts and would not give me the money back saying that i hadnt used them enough, and kept the money !!

    That would not be legal. If they have said this to you, then put in a complaint.

    It is likely that they either;
    1. Sent you the money, but for whatever reason you have not received it or have forgotten it.
    2. Marked your account as dormant with funds still in it. If so, you are entitled to these funds and any interest (small as it may be) that has accrued.

    Speak to them or write to them. But don't leave it for another nine years.
