Buying a flat needs double glazing and boiler advice about grants?

The flat I'm buying is an ex council flat it requires new windows 4 small and 1 large lounge one and a new boiler.

I looked into this:

energysavingtrust.org.uk/grants-and-support

I may be elliable for a free boiler or £300 towards windows. What advice can anybody give has anybody ever had this deal on here?

Make sure the freeholder (council?) will grant consent for the windows....

Well the flat next door has double glazing and its bought.

Surely they wouldn't expect me to sit in single glazing when the council ones above got done many years back?

I can't read your lease from here so really don't know do I?

I'm simply pointing out that most leases require freeholder consent for replacement windows, so you should check.

Whether the freeholder will grant or deny consent will depend on the lease, the windows proposed, the freeholder attitude and possibly the fee payable for the consent.

Ah cool would a fee usually cost much?

However is there any grants, window deals buy one get one free or anything I can save money on the cost?

Many freeholders don't charge a fee.

Other freeholders charge a nominal amount (£20? £50?).

Some, especially where a management company is involved, charge more. I suspect a council will refer the matter to their surveyors to ensure the windows are acceptable to them, and the fee would reflect a professional surveyors fee.

    But I'm guessing.

There are hundreds of window companies from small local ones to national chains, and the market is very competitive. Some are real cowboys, some are very professional. Some advertise widely on TV etc so their costs reflect this, some don't.

Price does not always reflect quality so shop around carefully. Yes, many firms will offer 'buy one get one free', but if the cost of 'one' is 3 times the cost charged by someone else, the 'free' window is still expensive!

Yes that would worry me if it was a dodgy company.
How much should I be paying given its just 5 windows? My mate quoted me 3 grand.

    He's not a mate.

Do you think i could get it cheaper?

He did say about £800 big window £300 for the smaller ones so £2 grand should be more realistic but he mentioned the cost of fitting them ect not jay windows alone..
